"There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet." - the shahadah
In the 6th century AD a man named Muhammad started to share 'revelations' that he had received from the Angel of God. He saw the society of his day as idolatrous and divided. His solution was to bring them to a knowledge of the one true God and to teach them to live a good life. These are two of the fundamental teachings of Islam which are expressed in the testimony statement - the shahadah.
Muhammad's name for God is Allah. This is very similar as the Jewish 'El' or 'Elohim'. This is not surprising seeing that Allah is the same God as Abraham knew and served, therefore the same God which Jesus taught people about. Which led the three largest religions in the world all worshiping the same God.
